Mission Accomplished! - phase 2

After all wires had been run inside walls, the walls were closed and this was the first time that I got a real feel of the design. Entrance determines the first impression of any place, which is no less important than a person's face. The problem with my entrance was its proportion, or rather, the lack of it: a soaring 11-ft ceiling comes with a meager width of 3'4". Moreover, because the only source of natural light in the unit is the two windows located at the opposite end of the hallway, the hallway easily gives a tunnel-like feeling. To mend the problem, eight cubbies were built in the wall and a soffit was built out with 8 of 4" recessed lights installed inside. In this way, the "tunnel" was transformed into a gallery.

The space between the loft and kitchen was closed. But I did keep a big opening on that wall, which later will become an interior window. Another soffit running from kitchen to living room was also built out with recessed lights installed.

This is the closet-converted-sleeping area on the loft level. It is now much more accessible. Outside that, a 2'x9' area was parted to form a new closet.

The laundry/storage room was to be carpeted and wall covered with teak wainscot.

Stairs were also to be carpeted. I was thinking of installing lights inside the steps, but the plan didn't work out eventually.
